6 Easy Ways to Improve Your Website

There’s always something you can be doing to make your digital marketing efforts more effective, and that includes working to improve your website. As funny as it might sound, even just logging onto your business social media accounts on a regular basis is an essential activity.

While social media is always in flux, it’s because it is (supposed to be) a dialogue, and not a consistent, unchanging channel.

And what about something more “static” than social media – like your business website?

  • Are you reviewing it regularly?
  • Updating it?
  • Adding new content?

Since I’m such a nice fella, I’ll give you a head start. Here’s my six fast and easy ways to make your website shine.

6 Simple Ways to Improve Your Website

1. Make your site “stickier.”

Please don’t put any adhesive materials on your computer screen. But DO put at least one link to another page within your site at the bottom of every page. Send your site visitor to your products/services page, or maybe the About Us page, or simply to the Contact Us page. I previously wrote about using a Call-to-Action (CTA) in this blog.

2. Check your spelling.

This one is crazy simple. Do a spellcheck of every page on your site. If you’re an “extra mile” kind of person, then follow that up by proofreading every page on your own.

PRO TIP: Spellcheck doesn’t catch everything. So whether you proofread it or have someone else with an eagle-eye do it – I promise, it’s worth the effort.

3. Get visual – use images.

As fellow Rocks Digital contributor John Nosal posted on Twitter the other day:

I think this is great advice. Remember that people are visual by nature, and it’s always nice to break up a page of words-words-words-words-words with an image. Plus, it’s an opportunity to showcase your products, employees, location, or even clients.

4. Do some QA.

QA, or “Quality Assurance” to most of us, means an overall review to see that everything on your website is working properly. Basically, you should click on everything that’s clickable to make sure it sends your site visitor to the right place. And test out any “subscribe via email” features, or any other forms or widgets you have on your site. “Broken” or incorrect links are no fun for visitors, and they make you look bad.

5. Check your contact info.

Make sure that all of your phone numbers, emails, social links, and any other contact information is correct. To lose a prospective customer’s business because you have a wrong phone number or email address on your site? Not good.

6. Got a date?

This one is a pet peeve of mine because it’s something so simple, but so commonly forgotten. That copyright date at the bottom of every page of your site? Please don’t let it be out of date. Heck, I think we’re close enough to 2018 that you should update yours right now!
