I’ve been looking forward to this last-minute motivational speaker over part of the lunch hour. Called “Undoubtedly North America’s Premier Achievement Expert” by ABC News, Douglas Vermeeren is a top global speaker and author on increasing human potential.
Doug opens with a story about an amazing speaking opportunity offered to him from the Peoples Republic of China. He arrived in Beijing, China after a 43-hour flight, and is welcomed with the request, “Are you willing to speak to a few of our teachers?” His translator and escort deliver him to an ornate building and he steps into a room with FOUR THOUSAND Chinese teachers. A little intimidating, but he ultimately takes the whole experience in stride.
The “School of Hard Knocks” says: Experience takes time, money, effort to achieve. In the book Outliers it says it takes 10,000 hours of practice to become an expert at something.
“We often come away with brilliance from events like these [referring to the DFW Rocks Social Media Day 2013], but we better apply what we’ve learned because we get distracted.”
“Any purchase you ever make is an investment. Quality of life is an investment in yourself.”
Doug quotes FedEx Magnate Frank Maguire: “Ignorance is the most expensive thing on the planet… Because it costs you time.” Read more about Occam’s Razor
From Doug:
Giving back is so important. The most important phrases we have at the end of our lives is “Thank you” and “I love you.”
Why do so many people fail to stick to their New Year’s resolutions? If a goal doesn’t come from within you, it’s hard to accomplish. “We are human beings, not human doings.” Staying motivated can be tough.
Doug tells us about his casual conversation with the renowned actor Edward James Olmos. “People think that success comes from doing what you don’t want to do. I believe success is finding something you love to do and doing it, even when you don’t feel like it.”
Doug’s Coaching Program is called Maximum Results. Attendees at DFW Rocks Social Media Day 2013 can receive a one month free of a year’s worth of coaching based on Doug’s research into the lives of more than 400 of the world’s top achievers.

The hour with Doug has raced by and we are concluding. He shares closing thoughts from a Zen saying: “Leap – and the net will appear.”
