Video Marketing: How To Grow Your Business with Videos
Antoine Dupont inadvertently discovered the power of video when he was struggling to change the clock in his minivan. He decided to make a video of the process to help him remember so that he wouldn’t have to be frustrated again when the time changed. So, he uploaded his video and forgot about it.
Well, the time changed again and Antoine went to look at his video so he could reset that confounded clock… and the video had 38,000 views! And a bunch of really cool comments (left by OTHER people who hadn’t been able to figure out how to set the clocks in THEIR vehicles).
There are 5 types of videos your business needs to make:
- How-To Videos because they establish you as an authority.
- FAQ Videos because they’ll help you get more sales.
- Videos about each of your products and services because it’ll help your SEO.
- We Are a Best Fit For… videos because they’ll help your conversion rate.
- Bio Video in emails because they’ll increase traffic.
The 2 Biggest Video Marketing Myths
There is a myth that 2 minutes is the ‘optimal’ length for a video. This is a myth. A horrible 2 minute video isn’t going to get watched. A brilliant, quality-content 44 minute video WILL get watched.
It’s a complete myth that you need a commercial. Ask yourself, do YOU like commercials? No? Well, neither does anyone else. A product benefit video is NOT a commercial.
How to Create a Quality Video That People Will Watch
Do your research. AnswerThePublic.com is a great place to get questions that people are asking. What do you do once you know what the questions are? Answer them. Establish yourself as an authority. Use the exact wording of the question to help people find your video in the vast sea of videos.
Prepare and Write a Script! Use the A-P-P method:
A = Agree – “I’m sure you would agree that….”
P = Promise – “But if I told you that….”
P = Preview – “In this video I’m going to show you…”
So, how do you write your script? Antoine’s got you covered. You can get your FREE copy of a script template at Katapult.Marketing/script
Now let’s talk about framing and lighting. Try to have the person in your vide on the righthand side of the frame (about 2/3 of the total frame space). That will leave you room for text on the left.
Make sure that you have good lighting. You want people to be able to see your eyes. The best times for lighting are sunrise and sunset – noontime is way too bright.
But video is EXPENSIVE, isn’t it? Well, it doesn’t need to be. Use your cellphone, a tripod, a decent microphone and a good light and it will run you about $150.
If you have a Mac you can use Final Cut Pro to edit the video, Camtasia if you have a PC. Just keep in mind – 1 minute of video = 1 hour of editing.
The Best Social Media Platforms for Video Marketing
So, the two big platforms for video are:
Facebook – which helps businesses find prospects
And
YouTube – which helps prospects find businesses
An Engaging Video Doesn’t Have to Be An Expensive Video
Just remember, high-dollar, high-production videos aren’t necessarily going to be any more effective than something you can produce yourself. Don’t make commercials! Make sure your video answers questions and it will probably get you views. And sometimes, the best questions are questions that you wanted answers to yourself, like how to change the darn clock in your minivan!
