Goldie Chan posts videos on LinkedIn… A LOT of videos. In fact, she uploaded video in the parking lot of the conference today. She has grown her audience from 2,000 to over 30,000 on LinkedIn.
Goldie’s Pro Tip: ALWAYS send a note with a connection request on LinkedIn.
Build a presence on a platform that makes sense for your brand.
Pinterest has AMAZING SEO, so don’t write it off as a dying platform.
“People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are. You have to pick carefully. I’m actually as proud of the things we haven’t done as the things I have done. Innovation is saying ‘no’ to 1,000 things.” – Steve Jobs
Focus
Know the kind of content you want to create and eliminate distractions.
It’s always helpful to have your personal flavor in your personal brand. All of those things that are weird about you, that can be built into your personal brand. You want people to be able to start a conversation with you.
Feedback & Collaboration
Be open to hearing real feedback that’s constructive and collaborative.
Think about 5 individuals or brands that you could collaborate with next week.
Content
Create the kind of mind-blowing content that your audience can’t wait to watch.
You need to know what your audience really wants. List five interesting people who are in your space and look at their content. Admire the content, and then look at how can you do that with the filter of your personal brand lens.
What Are Your 3 Brand Keywords?
Goldie’s are:
- Magic (Disney, Harry Potter)
- Marketing (10+ years experience)
- Me (Authenticity)
What are the adjectives that you want people to relate to you? Ask 2 of your friends/colleagues.
Demographics
- Knowing intimately who you are speaking to, and WHY, will put you one foot ahead of the rest.
- How old are they, where do they live?
Press and PR
If you have one simple message, press will be able to cover you much more easily. Press wants a simple message.
- The more you know your own brand, the easier it is for press and PR to work with you.
- You want press to know who you are QUICKLY.
CAREFULLY curate what you share.
Heads up – LinkedIn is revamping groups, so this is a good time to start a new group!
Goldie’s Pro Tip – Building a community that values your brand and consumes all of your content is an invaluable resource, whether you’re in consulting or working within a much larger organization.
