Do you feel like using Twitter is a job? A chore that you feel you’re obligated to do? Lissa Duty explains how to make Twitter a creative and fun endeavor.

How to Get the Most Out of Twitter

Twitter is a powerful social media platform but you get out of it what you put into it! You have to put energy and time into it. Lissa gives us a few tips on how to get the most out of it with a concentrated amount of energy and time so you can get back to focusing on your business.

  • Write 100 one-hundred character tweets so that can be easily retweeted.
  • You want to be retweeted to grow the number of people who see your tweets.
  • Create 100 “evergreen” tweets. These are tweets you can tweet over and over, when you need something quick for your feed.
  • Write your tweets in a program like Word or Excel first where you have a spell check option.

Tweeting for a brand is a little different because you have to find the brand’s Twitter “personality”.

  • You can tweet about events/promotions ahead of time to get some engagement started ahead of the event.
  • If you are a brand and you’re at an event, tweeting about the event can help connect you to the people at the conference, maybe gaining some new customers for you.
  • Be careful about what you tweet because you may gain attention that is unwanted or negative.
  • You can usually spin any “negative” interactions to the positive. But realize that sometimes you will need to let it go.

Other Twitter Tips

Twitter is about creating conversation. Instead of just saying “thank you” when someone retweets or tags you, ask a question in return.

If you can use both a Twitter ID and a hashtag, that will help to expand the potential number of people seeing the tweet and interacting with it.

Don’t just put your social media on autopilot without any interaction. Remember, Twitter is about creating conversations.  But, sometimes it’s NOT about the reply but that you or your brand are being remembered.

Bottom Line – Just remember that Twitter is about fun and engagement! Create conversations and have a good time!
