Oh my goodness – if I don’t see it once I see it often, and it saddens me to no end to see highly successful business professionals presenting themselves on social media in a negative way, specifically with Facebook rants. Zig Ziglar said it best, “Your attitude affects your altitude”!
We want to be taken seriously in the professional world, yet we do not always present ourselves as serious competitors. Too much complaining and too much DRAMA! We want the world to see us more positively among our fellow professionals.
If you want to be taken serious you have to present yourself in a manner that reflects just that! ~ Debbie Mrazek
Stop putting your negative personal business out there for the world to see it gives the reader an immediate impression of you. Your attitude is picked up through your tone of your Facebook posts. Make sure the world is reading an attitude that reflects a great impression of who you are, not who you are not.
Share your Facebook Rants with Your Close Friends Only
If you have to vent use this Facebook privacy option to select who will see your vent. Facebook allows you to create custom lists where you can select just close family and friends, excluding potential business connections or customers.
How To Create A Facebook List
- Go to your home page.
- On the left hand side, you will see the basic – Newsfeed- Messages – Events – etc…, under that Pages – and then under that the category FRIENDS. That is where you will start.
- If you roll your mouse over the FRIENDS you will see off to the right of it “More.” Click on that!
- A new view will appear and you will see the options at the top of the page “+Create List.” Click on that!
- A new window will pop up where you will name your list and be able to begin adding people to it. You can always edit your list later adding or removing people as you wish.
Take advantage of creating Facebook lists and then yes – fine – vent away; but otherwise, leave it off Facebook. As for other social media sites – just don’t go there with any negativity. And NEVER use your Facebook Page as an outlet for your Facebook rants or venting. Remember business attitude only!
Your attitude really will affect your altitude – let’s aim for the stars!
